Auburn March 20th –
My dear Augustus,
I was glad to receive
your letter yesterday considering it an
assurance that you are well – We have
had a cold unpleasant month of March
but I presume it is quite as well for the
progress of vegetation which is often retarded
by cold weather in April and May
when the month of March is warm –
Your report for the month of February
came the day before your letter – you
stand 31 in Engineering 30 in Rhetoric &
Moral Philosophy & 34 in Artillery –
Whole number of demerits 60 – 3 for
the last month –
Your father
he will go to Orange County as soon
as the river is open at Albany – in the
mean time he is continually in court somewhere
either here or in the neighbouring counties –
Fred
of College life a little – he will come
home for a spring vacation next
month –

visit until June – We are to have some
alteration made in the house which will
preclude visitors next month – the long
stair case is to be taken down and the
south room thereby enlarged – I am quite
unable to decide whether the convenience
of the house will be more increased or
diminished by this arrangement as what
we gain in one way we lose in another
but we shall obtain a larger sitting room
which is a desirable consideration – I dread
the pulling down of walls exceedingly –
Aunt Clara
she has escaped this winter until now –
Catherine Miller
is some talk of the Seavers
returning but I hope they will not –

exhibition which comes off in May – he
is to speak an original composition on that
occasion which he seeemed to dread

him yet and the other one will
not go before a single wagon –

man to call upon half of the time –
John must be kept because Grandpa does
not like to part with him – he proposed
to find work elsewhere part of the time
of course we have not work to employ
two men the whole time –
The great abundance of pigeons sent
many persons to the woods yesterday –
