Dear Gus,
I see by a notice in the Journal that
your examinations are about commencing and I
write to inquire if you cannot stop and pay me
at least a flying visit as you go through on your
way home. I should be very glad to see you here,
and I suppose I shall not have another opportunity
until next August when my vacation comes. Schenectady
it is true cannot offer any great attractions and in fact
it is a place rather beneath the notice of the Army, but
still I think we could find means to pass away the
time of your visit, not very disagreeably. At the same
time I suppose you will allow me to congratulate
you, on having finished your four years dose of
education — judging by my own case it must be a
joyful occasion with you, for I intend to rejoice
extensively this summer on getting through only two

third, and so on up to the seventeenth cousins,
of
ours, who are so profusely scattered over that part
of the country — A pleasant journey to you and
good bye until I see you here.
Affectionately your brother
Frederick.
If you will let me know when you are coming I
will be at the cars to meet you.
