Tuesday Aug 13th
My dear Henry,
I have your letter
of the 10th– I was surprised
to see John Davis
give territory to Slavery–
Upon Mr Winthrop
never placed any reliance
since he seemed in the
manner he did last Winter–
However, the world in gen-
eral do not mark these
things– I have been waiting
to have some time fixed
for the adjournment before
I came to Washington
Page

but am ready to come at
any time– Who is to
accompany me? or where
can you or Fred
I have but one objection to
leaving home at this time
and that is that I must
travel without my teeth
my mouth is in such a
state that I cannot wear
them– I would stop at
Baltimore & see Dr Pratt
Say I leave here the 26th
that is a week from next
Monday– Fanny
with me– Henry Smith
died yesterday morning
at 10 oclock at his mothers
house–

I was with Mrs Smith
2 hours yesterday– go to
the funeral tomorrow–
Lazette
whenever I wish to leave
home– Catherine Huson
will finish her visit some
time next week–
your own
Frances–
