My dear Henry,
There are so many
letters that I think it best
to commence forwarding them
Four Two interest me
especially – that from Prof.
Bache
It is undoubtedly wise to
make the next application
for Augustus
manner advised by Professor
Bache – Last evening Mr
May
from Syracuse called with
Mr Austin
of the letter from Mr Wheaton
and was very desirous that
I should forward it
Page

immediately – He expects with
Mr Wheaton & some other
persons to be arrested to day –
Four white persons
man
yesterday for examination
before Judge Conkling
These are all respectable
men one of them a is
said to be a nephew
Gov Davis
there is considerable excitement
here – 2 fugitives
gone to Canada – one of them
was our acquaintance John
Of course there is some
curiosity about the decision
of Judge Conkling – I have
no great faith in his firmness
– we heard some unfavorable
indication yesterday – As
I understood it he declines

allowing the attorney for
the defendant to see
the affidavits which prevents
their sending for important
evidence – Jam- Lawrence
is very much engaged for
the prosecution – I never
liked that man –
Pa
has not been out since you
went away – Mr Sackett
came over last evening
which seems to gratify him
very much – We are all
as well as usual – My best
Love to all our Goshen cousins –
The speeches printed here do
not come yet so George
is detained – those from
Detroit are all sent –
Your own
Frances –
