Port-Jervis, Feby 3, 1852.
Uncle,
I was designing to go to the Surrogate's Office to-
morrow to make my application to have the Executors cited
to show why the estate should not be divided at once. But
this afternoon I received a letter from Mr Grier
Birth: 1802-09-27 Death: 1878-12-20
informing megenerally what has recently been done at Goshen; & from a
private source information reaches me that you have returned
to Washington.
I am also told that if I consent to the proposed distribution
Mr Grier will go to Washington to make there some distri-
bution of the Personal property.
I shall go to Goshen to inquire into the proposed distri-
bution of the Real Estate.
We have a daily mail & it is but a two hour's ride from
here to Goshen: why did you not send for me to meet you there?
Why have you never consulted me? Does the article of my
Grandfather's will which bequeathes a Legacy of Ten thousand Dollars,
create you a prefect Pope? Your treatment of me is
ungenerous – it is more, supremely mean.
You did not answer my last letter: will you now conde-
scend to inform me what further you mean to do? or how
much longer to defer a final settlement? –
With profound respect (?)
Augustus Seward
The Honorable
William H. Seward
Washington.
