Auburn June 2d –
My dear Augustus,
I was quite surprised
to find you were yet
in New York when I
had for some days
imagined you were
on the Chesepeake–
Father
to New York until
Tuesday – you have
probably seen him
before this time –
he will go to Orange
county before he returns–

Fred
last Saturday with
Summer complaint – I
kept him until yester-
day morning – he was
well when he left
at least he said he
was though he looks
very thin and does
not seem strong –
I wish he could leave
the office for a month –
Frances
me a week – she came
the same day you
left – Henry
over Saturday

and stayed until
Monday when they
returned together. Frances
thinks she will go to
some watering place
some time this month
but has not decided
where – Aunty
over next week –
I found your book
of “Army Regulations
in arranging the library
and send it this
day by Express –
Aunt Clara
sends love – so does
Fanny

continues to recite
his lesson in Arithmetic
to Mr Mellen
to drive the pony once
each day – Mr Schoolcraft
has gone to Detroit but
did not stop here –
Nothing decisive has
been done about Fred's
interest in the journal –
I continue to improve
in strength though I
have occasional sick
days – Dieu vous garde
your Mother —
