Auburn Aug 1st —
My dear Augustus,
When you get married
please let me know & be sure to
invite me to the wedding though
I will not come unless you wish it –
If you look among the departures
for Europe in the Atlantic on
the 6th of August you may find
the names of Mr
Schoolcraft– Mr Schoolcraft
came to see me on Saturday – he
informed me that it was their intention
to be married Saturday morning & leave
immediately for Europe– As he seems
very desirous to keep this affair
secret you will not speak of it
until you are positive it has
taken place —

Caroline has not been home and
has never said any thing on this
subject in her letters – I am
sorry for her own sake that
she subjects herself to the imputation
of treating us with so little a want
consideration which evinces either
heartlessness or inexcusable thoughtless-
ness – There may be some excuse
if there is I would be glad to
know it – it appears badly – and
will excite much censure –
Caroline is at present at Col. Hamiltons
an acquaintance of Mr Schoolcrafts who
lives near Albany– They are
to be married some where in New
York – I hope not at a tavern –
So far neither your father
have been invited to witness the
ceremony – Please burn this letter–

Your father went to Cooperstown
Thursday – will be home tomorrow —
Fred
weeks – Dawson
Frances
Hill the last time I heard–
Mr McLallans
and some fire arms taken from
it last week – Aunt Clara
well –
God bless you –
your Mother –
