Auburn Dec 22d —
My dear Son,
I have your last letter
from Washington – hope this may
reach you before you leave Key
West – The day after you left
Washington Mary
Birth: 1819-11-24 Death: 1854-12-18
had an apoplectic
fit, the result of previous disease —
she lived until Monday at 6
oclock but without again speaking
though a few hours before her
death she manifested a return
of consciousness – When Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
last wrote they were preparing
for her funeral – her husband
Unknown
and his family
Unknown
were with her.
Your Father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
who was to have
gone to New York Friday, delayed
his journey until Monday
morning, when he was obliged
to leave to meet an engagement
for Tuesday – he writes me
he will be detained a week —
Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
and I are living very
quietly with a small family
Unknown
Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
has not been here since
the time of the wedding – she
writes that she is much engaged
moving, and furnishing her new
house – Aunt Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
is well –
the weather is so exceedingly
cold that she cannot come
up every night — Mr McLallen
Birth: 1791-09-07 Death: 1860-11-16
has just discovered that one of
his boys James Adams
Unknown
has for
more than a year been in the
practice of taking what money
he pleased from the shop —
he has dismissed him – but
for Aunt Clara I think he would
have gone to Prison — The thermom-
eter this morning is below zero –
we have had sleighing more
than 2 weeks — I have been out
twice in a sleigh — it was
too cold to go far — Aunty went
yesterday with the Mellen’s

Syracuse to hear a lecture given
by Starr King
Birth: 1824-12-17 Death: 1864-03-04
of Boston —
Our society here are is too sectarian
to unite in getting up a course
of lectures for the Winter—
I do not know what our
people
Unknown
at Washington are to do
without poor Mary – though I
fear she has not been able to
do much this Winter – Your father
will miss her greatly —
Fred does not write how long
he will stay — I am glad
that Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
enjoys her visit —
I am much better than I
was at this time last Winter –
You will not fail to write as often
as you can – I am glad you keep
well – all send love – God bless
and keep you —
Mother —
