Washington March 1st
1856 –
My dear Son,
Your letter of the 25th
came yesterday – I am
relieved to hear you have
left Cape Sable where I
have felt anxious about
you since the commence-
ment of Indian hostilities –
You had not then received
my letter telling you of
Uncle Worden's
Birth: 1797-03-06 Death: 1856-02-16
death – He
died the 17th of Feb – Saturday –
was buried at Canandaigua
the next Wednesday –
Your father
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
Aunt Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
and Frederick
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
were at
the funeral – with many
friends from Auburn and
adjoining towns – Father
remained a day after the
funeral – It was concluded
that Frances
Birth: 1826-12-12 Death: 1909-08-24
& Henry
Birth: 1822-02-03 Death: 1888-11-24
should
occupy the house for the
present – Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
has moved her
furniture to Auburn and is
now staying with Aunt Clara –
I think she will come
here before I return – Frances
remains at the Hotel some
weeks yet to have the house
put in order. Frederick
came last night to stay
a week or so – Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
will
probably go home with him
and Frances Seward
Birth: 1836-02-16 Death: 1910-02-06
will
return home at the same
time. Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
begins to feel
the effect of being shut up
all winter – he is not well
and wants to go home —
The debate on the Kansas
difficulties has been opened
in the Senate by Mr
Hale
Birth: 1806-03-31 Death: 1873-11-19
– will probably
occupy some time and
many speakers – Nothing
of interest going on in the
House – Father finds his
office full of letters and doc-
uments with which he is
as busily engaged as usual
The weather is a little milder
but still unpleasant and
cold for the Season here.
The roads are so bad that
it is impossible to drive
much off from the pave-
ment –
The Miss Webbs

Birth: 1827-11-30
Death: 1896-10-03
round Friday evening
to play whist with father.
I saw them a short time
in my own room –
Andy's
Birth: 1835-02-15 Death: 1911-02-12
wife
Birth: 1837-07-13 Death: 1912-11-15
has been
here – is now in New
York – She wishes to go to
Andy who I should judge
from their account was in
no situation to receive a
wife – There is no fort where
he is stationed – they are
sleeping in tents when not
in pursuit of the Indians
A boy of 20 and a girl of
17 are not the most
suitable persons to make
matrimonial calculations –
Mrs Webb
Birth: 1826-01-02 Death: 1890-01-16
is too sick to
go North – the Gen
Birth: 1802-02-08 Death: 1884-06-07
– thinks
of taking their present
ad abode until June –
There is an occasional party
during this season of Lent –
Anna & Frances attended one
at Mrs Fish's
Birth: 1816-12-17 Death: 1887-06-30
last week –
Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
& indeed the whole
family send love – with a
blessing from
Mother
