Wednesday December 31st
My dear Sister,
Dear Clara
her way home this morning
she is going to you who
are more alone than I am
so I will not complain
though we all miss
her very much – She
and Fred
yesterday morning hoping
to reach N. York last
night and Clara thought
she would go on to Auburn
if possible to day – I
shall be anxious until I
hear she is safely at home
She was not very well
when she left
[top Margin] almost certain proof –
she could not find when
he boarded in the school
house in
which he taught – There Page

I was not well enough to go
to dinner yesterday – young
Mr Johnson
our folks – Fanny
to a juvenile party in
the evening – Henry
not make a table for
whist without Clara
so he wrote – Anna
whose face was rather
sorry because Fred had
gone, came and read
for me until she &
Mary
I sent Lewis for Fanny
at 1/2 past 9 but she did
not come until 1/2 past
10 when we all retired for
the night – every body saying
how lonesome it was
without Clara –

This morning we are
going out on some
errands preparatory to
N. Years – there is to be
a table and all those
things – turkey Ham
tongue & – cake – I am
glad Anna is here and wish
Frances
help her – I have not
been free from pain many
hours since I was so foolish
as to go to the Theater –
I shall not do that again –
–1/2 past 10 – A message
by telegraph says Frances
is coming to night – we
are coming back soon
to make the house ready –
afternoon – Well Mary
has moved up stairs
Page

and the rooms are ready –
Henry or Anna go to
the cars to meet Frances
as neither of our men Unknown
would know her –
I hope Clara may be home
to night – tell her
the curtains are finished
and up for N. Years –
Anna pinned them
down today – Miss Hance
came back before dinner
she was not successful
in hearing any thing about
her brother
learn that about the
time he disappeared a
murdered man was found
near Alexandria whose
body was never identified –
If the time should correspond
this would seem to be
