My dear Son
We came home from
Gloucester last evening much
improved in health — I
would like to have stayed
a week longer but as
there was no prospect
of Father’s
Birth: 1801-05-16 Death: 1872-10-10
coming for me
I thought it better to
come home with Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
who stayed with us all
the time — I was glad
he did so as he needed
the recreation — We left
Jenny
Birth: 1839-11-18 Death: 1913-11-09
at Roxbury
near
Boston where her Mother
Birth: 1812-03-30 Death: 1893-11-13
has gone to join her — Jenny
I think was less favourably
affected by the sea-air
than the rest of us —
While we were at Gloucester
a letter came from
Father mailed at Tadoosac
a small town not far
from the mouth of the
Saginaw River —The letter
was the Log book of their
voyage from the 1 st to
the 6 th of August — They
had not made very rapid
progress owing to calms
and adverse winds — did
not say how much longer
they should be gone or what
place they intended to make
their destined port — Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
wrote to her Mother
Birth: 1812-10-29 Death: 1889-10-09
that
they had chartered the
boat for 2 weeks – She had
suffered a good deal with
sea-sickness – Her letter
and a copy of the Log book
by Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
was mailed at
the same time with mine –
Three weeks from the time
they left Quebec expired the
22 d that is a week ago
yesterday — still we hear
nothing further and are
anxiously looking for letters —
Mrs Wharton is very uneasy
about them — I think
they cannot have been in
the region of Post Offices —
may even have gone to
Labrador of which your
Father talked before leaving
home — I am glad they
provided themselves with
Winter clothing at Quebec
they will have need
of them it — They seem
to be near the coast
had been on shore at one
or two places — All were in
good health better than
when at home — I hope
they will come safely
home — Our sojourn at
Gloucester was very pleasant
a comfortable boarding
house — We saw Mr

Mellen

every day — Fanny
Birth: 1844-12-09 Death: 1866-10-29
bathed every day – the
rest of us a number of times
I felt better there than
I have done in years —
Aunty
Birth: 1803-11-01 Death: 1875-10-03
and Aunt Clara
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
met us at the Depot — have
been well while we were
away — The garden continues
to look pleasant – Will,
goes back Tuesday —
When are you coming home?
