I think the country
pretty generally saving
the unreasonable abolition-
ists are prepared for
the peaceable measures
which the Administration
seem inclined to adopt –
There is no choice but
an interminable civil
war and few are wicked
enough to prefer this
I refer to the evacuation
of the Forts – which
require only a sacrifice
of pride, not principle –

again this morning –
Will came home
last night very tired
after traveling 20 hours
This morning at 4 oclock
he was called up by
an alarm of fire –
The fire was near the
Railroad station –
We are all pleased &
grateful that his
business matters are
so arranged that he
will begin the world
hopefully – Love to the
children – God bless you

I was very glad
to hear from Will
night that you were
really better – Your attack
was as I supposed lumbago
but I think more severe
than you have ever had
it before – Such pain
