Auburn. June 19 th 1861
My dear Father
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
leaves for Washington tomorrow, with
quite a number of letters – so
I shall add one more.
It is very warm and pleasant –
I have been to the lake today –
Day before yesterday we were very
pleasantly surprised by a visit from
Mrs Stanton
Birth: 1815-11-12 Death: 1902-10-26
and Nancy Van Rennsalaer
Birth: 1837 Death: 1902-05-22
– they came in the
early train and Mrs Stanton
returned at six – Nancy staid
until last evening – yesterday
we dined at Pisgah.
This morning Mother
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
had a letter from Mrs Wharton
Birth: 1812-10-29 Death: 1889-10-09
– partly promising that we should
have a visit from Mr Wharton
Birth: 1808-02-07 Death: 1868-09-09
and saying that she and
Mollie would come and see us
this summer. We were quite sur-
prised to hear of John’s
Birth: 1841-12-14 Death: 1896-10-15
commission it was still under consideration
when she wrote.
I went to see Harriet
Birth: 1807 Death: 1888-08-20
this
morn- ing. she was better. and had had
a good night’s rest.
The garden looks very pretty.
There are a great many flowers
in bloom now. Some flag lilies
which I transplanted from the
lake a year or two ago – have improved
very much by cultivation, and
are now quite large – bearing
quantities of flowers.
Much love from all –
Your affectionate little girl
Fanny
