Auburn November 10th 1861
My dear Father
I was delight-
ed to receive General Scotts
Birth: 1786-06-13 Death: 1866-05-29
letter,
which came last night, as
did the cards of Mr
Birth: 1814-03-27 Death: 1889-12-24
and
Mrs Mackay
Unknown
. The things
you have already sent me
are beginning to form a
very valuable collection by
themselves. You may
believe it was tantalizing
to have you as near as N.
York
, and no nearer, how-
ever I am looking forward
to being in Philadelphia
Page 2

soon, where the distance
that separates us will
not be so great. It is
now less than three weeks
from the time we think
to depart.
Aunty
Birth: 1793-05-01 Death: 1862-09-05
and I went to
Seneca Falls Friday. Judge
Sackett
Birth: 1790-08-09 Death: 1865-06-02
asked a great deal
about you – he showed us
his great Seward steer – it
is very handsome and
grown to be immense. He
has a little Arabian colt,
it is sorrel – it was not
at his house – so we did
not see it.
Today has been very fine

The garden is deserted –
the flower beds all covered
with leaves – not deserted
either, for a party of visit-
ors, nine in number went
over it yesterday.
Will
Birth: 1839-06-18 Death: 1920-04-29
has at last become
persuaded of his need
for exercise – every morning
he rises early, and mount-
ing one of the black horses
goes off for a ride before
breakfast, accompanied
by Paul Woodruff
Birth: 1833-06-11 Death: 1895-08-09
, who has
just bought a new horse.
Will’s foot continues to
do well – and he gets
along at a brisk rate, with

a cane in hand – scarcely
limping at all. All are
well – our latest addition
is a pretty little kitten
who makes herself very much
at home.
Mother
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
had a letter from
Uncle George
Birth: 1808-08-26 Death: 1888-12-07
last night.
he wrote that Sarah Sew-
ard
Birth: 1833-06-08 Death: 1891-06-12
was going to Shang-
hai
with her brother
Birth: 1840-11-08 Death: 1910-11-28
.
The new Society of Ladies
for volunteer work is pros-
pering. I went to the
meeting Thursday, it was
attended by a large number.
Love to all, and from all
Ever r affectionately your little girl
Fanny
