My dear Son
The party left us
this morning at 1/2 past
8 to go to Elmira by
the Cayuga Lake
returning on the Seneca to
Geneva and from there
to Niagara – The pic-
nic at the Lake was
a success. – Mr
Martin
could to make it
pleasant – The rain
last morning prevented
an assemblage of ladies

as was intended but
there was a very promising
assemblage of men – on
which account I lost
the opportunity of spending
an hour with our
guests the last morning
I was only able to see
them in the evening
while here – Mr
Mercier
Perry's
the party – I think he
took cold yesterday –
if I not better tomorrow
I will go see him.
I believe there was no
other untoward circumstances

of the party – Mr Stoeckel
has innumerable telegrams
from madame
not see him or Mr
Schleiden
ning. We all regretted that
you & Anna
are you not coming home
before summer is gone? –
