Dear Augustus
When I was in Auburn
last week, a letter came
from Fred
Birth: 1830-07-08 Death: 1915-04-25
saying you were in N.Y. –
Have you regular
business which will
take you there at
stated times or is
this an accidental
business –? Before the
winter sets in I
intend to go to N.Y.
for a few weeks –
and if we can
arrange to be there
together – it would be
very pleasant for us
I thought perhaps
you had business
connected with your
office, which would
take you to N.Y. once
in a few weeks –
Write and tell me –
Where you are to be found –
or where letters find
you, and how long
you will now be in
the City, and what
your assignments are
about being there
Where would we
all stay? fancy trying
the Everett house –
I should take Frank

would go down and stay a
little while, so we
could form a nice
sett of rooms with our
own parlour – could
we not –
I could not afford to
stay very long at an
expensive Hotel, occupying
a private parlour, but
we could have it together
and as I do not often
indulge in such trips
I always take the best
I can have when I do
go – Suppose you book
in at the Evertt and
see how it looks. I hear
it is very quiet and
pleasant for families –
Don't you think it all
a nice plan, I prefer
it to going to Washington
and you & I can have
a better visit together –
than we should in
Washington – In fact
I am not going to
Washington at all
this winter. Just now
I cannot go away from
home, and when I
do I prefer going to
N.Y. for there I can have
sea air.
and not be in any Society
I have written you
a long note all about
myself, but that is a
privilege people have
who have been sick
a month or two.
Affectionately
Cousin Fan
