Newport, Thursday
My dear Father,
I see by the
paper this morning that you
have returned to Washington.
So my letters and Mr Barreda’s
Birth: 1827 Death: 1883
addressed to Auburn will not
reach you.
Today is tempestuous outdoors
and therefore quiet within. The
Blatchfords
Birth: 1819-11-13
Death: 1868-11-10
Birth: 1798-04-23
Death: 1875-09-04
Birth: 1797-09-28 Death: 1882-02-26
are the only visitors so far.
The Philadelphia Convention
seems to be in all respects a
success, and admirably managed.
Both Anna
Birth: 1834-03-29 Death: 1919-05-02
and I continue
to improve. She is regaining her
strength, and my wounds show
increased healthy activity.
Affectionately yours
F.W.S
