My dear Father
We are rejoyced
to learn to day of your arrival
at Havana in [ safty ]
Alternate Text: safety. We have
watched with great interest your
travels through Mexico which
seems to have been a perfect
ovation from the time you
landed & cannot but have
been most gratifying to
you. Your stay was so
much longer than I anticipated
that I have neither written or

shall be very glad to have
you at home again and
still I am half in hopes
that the report which reaches
us of your stay in the West Indies
until spring is true as I fear
the effects of our cold winter
on your health. We are all
as well as usual here and
much as you left us in
the summer. The children grow
large and interesting, Nelly
has attended two parties this
week already, Jennys
is delicate and I have tried
to induce her to take the children
& go to some more agreeable
climate for the winter but she
refuses to do so without me &
I find it impossible to be absent
even for a week, my business
matters requiring all my time.

he seems well pleased.

pressure and those who have
not made proper provisions ahead
are likely to fare hard. Real

but no decided depreciation has
taken place. I have still on

last year for you & myself

in good order and I am
happy to say that mine are

much involved him that I
did not think it wise for us
longer to continue as partners.

Our Rail Road is now within 8
miles of Auburn & running regularly
for 50 miles. No little gratification
to me after five years hard struggle
for it. Rumor says that Mr. Blatchford
is to be married to Miss Hone

he would send me any instructions he may have
