Biography:
- James Berdan, son of David Berdan Senior grew up in New York City. He had five siblings: Rachel (became Mrs. Frederick Root) (b. 1793), Peter (b. 1797), John (1798-1840), Magaret (1800-1832), and David (1803-1827).
- David Sr. was authorized to explore the frontier states of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois and caused James and his siblings to venture to the middle of the county. James started a law practice in Jacksonville, Illinois and eventually became a judge.
- James Berdan was a frequent* (*as far as I can tell from 18321118FMS_WHS when she talks about publishing the correspondence between them) correspondent.
- the UMichigan collection of the family papers has a few "satirical" pieces, which they believe were written by James.
