Biography
Abigail Martha (Phillips) Porter was born in the early nineteenth century in Connecticut.
Abigail married John Porter of Auburn on February 17, 1825. John was a practicing lawyer and politician in Auburn, New York. Abigail and John had five children, two of whom survived to adulthood, Charles and Anna Phillips. Charles was a revered mechanical engineer known for his invention of the “Porter’s Steam Governor.” Anna married Alonzo Glover Beardsley, another prominent lawyer in Auburn and the son of New York State Senator, John Beardsley. Abigail was close friends with Frances Seward.
Abigail died at the age of 85, on March 29, 1886, in Auburn.
