Biography
Knower was a prominent New York businessman, a hatter by trade and a contributor to the fund that went into building the Erie Canal. "Knower served as the third president of the Mechanics and Farmers’ Bank of Albany. He was active in the bank’s management from 1817-1834, a total of 17 years. Knower also served as the Secretary of the Treasury of the State of New York from 1821 until 1824.
