Wife of Walter Cary, son of WHS's close friend. Her father was also a judge and politician in NY state. Her sister Maria was a philanthropist and lived with Julia; Walter and Julia Cary's home was unofficially known as "Miss Love's House" for this reason. Love's family was prominent in Buffalo society. The entire family went to Europe for a year in 1871, and visited many other countries over the years. She also entertained extensively, giving grand dinner parties and an annual Christmas night dance. They extended their hospitality to Presidents Millard Fillmore and Grover Cleveland, William Dean Howells, Stanford White, Arthur Brisbane, and the entire Lincoln cabinet.
