Robert Todd Lincoln was the eldest son of Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. He was the only one of their children to live to their twenties and have children of their own. He graduated from Harvard University in 1864, and subsequently enrolled at Harvard Law School before leaving in January 1865 to join the Union army. Postwar, he served as the Secretary of War from 1881-1885 under President Garfield and Arthur and was present at Garfield's assassination in 1881. Lincoln and his wife Mary had three children, and he died in Vermont in 1926.
