"Corydon H. Merriman, was the eldest son of Chas. J. and Rhoda F. Merriman. He was born at Onondaga, N. Y., July 10, 1808, was educated at Elbridge; went to New Hartford at the age of 14; resided there about one year engaged in mercantile pursuits; went from there to New York, where he remained until 1832; then returned to Elbridge and studied law with Hiram Mather and Reuben E. Farnham. In 1834 he came to Auburn and entered the Bank of Auburn as bookkeeper; in 1840 he made cashier, which position he held until January, 1876, when he was unanimously elected president of that incorporation. "
Corydon H. Merriman was married thrice. The first time, he was married to Mary Adams, who became Mary Merriman. They had three children: Truman Adams Merriman, Corydon H. Merriman Jr., and Edward Munro Merriman. Two years after Mary Merriman's death in 1849 he remarried to Mary Shethar. They had two children who died in infancy and childhood, named Mary and Herbert respectively. The second Mary Merriman, formerly known as Mary Shethar, died in 1858. He married for a third time to Harriet S. Glover. They had no issue and she outlived him.
