Biography

Alexis Ward was born in Vermont, and moved to Cayuga County as a child. He studied law in Auburn and was admitted to the bar in 1823.In 1824 he moved to Albion County and became a Justice of the Peace. In 1830 he was appointed First Judge of Orleans County. 
He procured the first bank incorporated in Orleans County, and advocated fro the building of the Rochester, Lockport, and Niagara Falls Railroad. He also was a strong advocate for public schools. He married Laura Goodrich of Auburn in 1826.
