Abdulaziz

Biography
Abdul-Aziz was an Ottoman sultan from 1861-1876. He was the son of Mahmud II and suceeded his brother Abdul-mecid, as sultan. Under his rule Turkey faced the unification of Wallachia and Moldavia into Rumania, the Cretan revolt, and the increasing autonomy of Egypt and Serbia. In 1875 a coup d'etat removed Abdul-Aziz from the throne in favor or his nephew, Murad V. Shortly afterward Abdul-Aziz took his own life.
