Frederick Nelson Cline was born in Auburn, N.Y. He was the son of James and Josephine Cline. He moved at some point in the late 1800's to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His first wife died in 1901, and in 1909 he married his second wife, Ellen Tappen. Although, a marriage certificate from 1906 shows that he married a wife in between his first and "second" wives, Carrie Diebold. On this marriage record he states that he divorced his first wife.
