Biography

Jane was the daughter of Henry Schoolcraft and his first wife, Jane Johnston Schoolcraft,  a native American woman with whom he had 3 children. She is mentioned in a letter from Frances Seward to Lazette Worden on February 13, 1852, "I met^ Mr Schoolcraft  & his daughter  for the first time– He was very agreeable his daughter is pretty & modest– has no indication of her Indian extraction."
