Mrs. Maria Van Vorst was mentioned in Frances Adeline Seward's January 23, 1855 letter to Augustus Henry Seward as one of Mr. Thomas Boyd's sisters. The letter says that Thomas Boyd lived in Albany with his sister Mrs. Van Vorst and her husband Hooper Van Vorst, an unmarried sister Rachel, and their mother Margaret McMurray Boyd until he died on January 4, 1855.
