Biography

He was the adopted son and nephew of Captain Alexander Hamilton Schultz. He is connected to Schultz through his uncle, D. C. Lowber, who married Schultz's wife's sister Mary. James lived in Burlington, NJ where William Henry Seward visited his farm a few miles out of town. He worked as a merchant. He had a blood brother, Edward G. James who lived in Philadelphia.
