Biography
Dugald Stewart was a Scottish philosopher and mathematician best known for popularizing the Scottish Enlightenment. His lectures at the University of Edinburgh were widely disseminated by his many influential students. In 1783 he was a joint founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. William Seward mentions a monument to him an a letter to his daughter Fanny written July 10, 1859.
