Biography
Claudius Monell was a lawyer who worked with Clarence Seward. Clarence wrote to William Seward in an letter writtern December 14 1857 to request his uncle's help for Monell. "My friend and broher lawyer Claudius Monell Esq. visits Washington for the purpose of submittig to the Supreme Court a cause in which he is the counsel for the appelant and I was hte counsel for the appelees. Mr. Monell has the briefs for both parties. He has never been admitted in the court. Will you please move his admission and then submit the case for me?" Monell later became the Chief Justice of Superior Court of NYC.
