Theodore W. Dimon is the first son of William Henry Seward's physician, Theodore Dimon. He was unmarried. He served as William Henry Seward's personal secretary at the U.S. State Department since October 9, 1864. He then served as the Librarian of the department before being appointed the Disbursing Clerk of the State Department in June 22, 1871. He was waged $2000 (annual) for the position, according to the department's 1872 Register. Additionally, he was rumored to have been appointed a position by the Japanese government, but he later denied the claim.


Theodore W. Dimon maintained personal relationship with William Henry Seward and Frederick William Seward into the early 1870s. In the 1871 letters between Frederick and William, Dimon was said to be carrying out certain wishes of William Henry Seward – who was traveling around the globe at the time.
