Biography
He was a brother of JLS. He was a geographer, geologist, and ethnologist, and author. He married his first wife, Jane Johnston, in 1822. They had four children together, but only 2 lived to adulthood: Jane Susan Ann (October 14, 1827—November 25, 1892) and John Johnston (October 2, 1829—April 24, 1864). Jane was a Native American, and bore Henry 3 children, William, Jane Susan Ann, and John. William died at age 3, and John at age 36. After Jane died in 1842, Henry moved to DC and married Mary Howard in 1847.
