Biography
Sir Edward Baldwin Malet, Fourth Baronet, was born the son of Alexander Malet, Second Baronet, and Mary Anne (Spaulding) Dora. He served as attache to his father who was serving as British Minister to the Germanic Confederation at Frankfurt beginning in 1854. In 1862, he was transferred to Washington, DC where he served under Lord Lyons. Malet worked with Lyons for the next years at various posts. He continued a long career in diplomatic service until his death in 1908. Frances "Fanny" Seward references his attendance at a Washington gathering in her 1862-63 diary.
