Biography
Lewis Cass Hunt attended West Point, and was in the same class as Augustus Seward. He graduated in 1847. He served in the Mexican-American War. In 1859 he commanded the joint occupation of San Juan Island. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was ordered to Washington to take part in the peninsular campaign of 1862. He was severely wounded at Fair Oaks. He was promoted to the rank of brigadier-general of volunteers Nov. 29, 1862. He was later made major of the 14th infantry, then commanded the defenses of New York Harbpr, 1864-66. He became colonel of the 14th infantry in 1881. He died in 1886.
