Middletown, Sept. 24: 1862.
My Dear Uncle,
The Sullivan County regiment is nearly
complete: and Governer Morgan
Birth: 1811-02-08 Death: 1883-02-14
has promised the war
committee, and individual gentlemen of this place, to
commission Colonel Dewitt
Birth: 1817-07-10 Death: 1889-02-26
immediately upon his being
transferred by the War Department.
Governer Morgan is represented to me as gratified
with the proposed arrangement. But the understanding
here is that the Governer cannot issue a commission until
Dewitt is released from his present position.
Very Respectfully and affectionately,
Your nephew,
Augustus Seward.
The Honorable
William H Seward.
